COLCHESTER Swimming Club members were in sensational form at the club's Midsummer Madness Open Meet.

More than 70 of the club's swimmers competed in the level 3 meet, winning a staggering 194 medals - 72 gold, 67 silver and 55 bronze.

They also recorded a number of personal bests (PB) after competing against swimmers from Borough of Southend, Borough of Redbridge, Clacton SC, Halstead, Harwich DP, Runnymede and Stanway.

Colchester Swimming Club head coach Michelle Young said: “Despite being one of the hottest days of the year, it was fantastic meet for our swimmers.

"It was particularly pleasing to see so many youngsters tackling the longer distances, as well as our teenagers enjoying the gala and competing in such great numbers.

"I would also like to thank all the club members and their families, including the young officials, who helped to make the day possible.”

In the nine year old category, Sophie Ryan won gold in the 100 metres breaststroke (2:02.95) and 50m breaststroke (54.65), with Naomi Sandercock claiming silver in the 50m breaststroke.

The boys also won a number of gold medals, with Elliot Whitehouse winning the 50m backstroke (44.11) and 50m freestyle (37.34), Alexander Cottrell claiming gold in the 100m backstroke (1:40.52) and Harrison Brook taking the honours in both the 50m butterfly (43.55) and 50m breaststroke (49.27).

Jude Yaghmour won silver in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke as did Harrison Brook in the 200m IM and 100m freestyle, while Alex Cottrell won silver in the 200m freestyle and 50m breaststroke and 200m IM bronze.

In the ten year old category, Daisy Himsworth won bronze in the girls' 200m freestyle while in the 100m breaststroke, Massimo Girolami won gold (1:45.07) with Jack McCarthy picking up bronze.

Jack McCarthy claimed 100m butterfly gold (1:27.44) and 100m backstroke silver, where Eoin Ledwidge claimed bronze.

In the 200m freestyle, Massimo Girolami won gold (2:45.56, PB) and Jack McCarthy won silver.

Massimo Girolami won further golds in the 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, as well as 50m butterfly silver.

Also in the 200m freestyle, Zak Troman (2:27.01), Antonio Girolami (2:32.41, PB), Owen Williams (2:27.91) and captain Thomas Grieve (2:02.32) all claimed gold in their respective age categories while Mark Milburn swam a PB of 2:21.45 to claim silver in the 13 year age group.

Zak Troman won five further gold medals (50m and 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke) and Antonio Girolami won three further golds (50m and 100m breaststroke, and 50m butterfly) and two silvers (50m and 100m freestyle).

Owen Williams also won two further golds (100m backstroke and 200m IM) and a silver (50m butterfly).

In the 200m freestyle, Colchester taking all three medals in the 13, 14 and 15 years and over categories.

Georgia Bleck (2:28.60) came first, followed by Hannah O'Malley and Lotti Talbot for the 13 year olds.

Lucy Morgan (2:20.03) took the honours for the 14 year olds, with Zoe Clegg and Lauren Himsworth winning silver and bronze respectively.

As well as taking gold in the 200m freestyle, Lucy Morgan won two further golds (100m freestyle and 200m IM) and three silvers (100m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke).

Additionally, Zoe Clegg won two gold medals (100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle) and three further silvers (100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly) as well as a bronze (50m breaststroke).

Alfie Francis won six golds (50m and 100m butterfly, 50m and 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and the 200m IM) and a silver (50m freestyle) and Charlie Pryke won four golds (50m and 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m IM) as well as three silvers (50m and 100m breaststroke, and 50m butterfly).

Molly Grieve recorded some great times and won gold in the 50m breaststroke (42.11) and 100m breaststroke (1:29.21). Colchester newcomer Olivia Cartwright claimed two golds in the 11 year old age group, winning the 50m backstroke (39.78) and 100m backstroke (1:22.43) and Alex Tinnion and Saif Rahman both secured double gold in the 50m and 100m backstroke.
