A YOUNG car enthusiast says he is aspiring to change the minds of people who think negatively about car meets.

Sam Iszard, 17, has recently started a new business called Essex Car Meets along with fellow entrepreneurs Connor Hallinan and Chris Jackson.

They held their first event on Sunday at the Old Pottery Kiln, in Witham, and attracted just under 100 cars to the gathering.

Sam said: "I think some people do have quite a negative view of car meets but we want to show that it's not all about doing doughnuts and revving engines.

"When I've approached businesses to see whether they're interested in hosting us I have had a few issues because they're not too sure about the idea.

"But we're organised and we have marshals and we're about the social aspect, enjoying the cars, and not causing any disturbances.

"It's sad that some people mess around because it gives others a bad name."

Sam, who lives in Colchester Road, Heybridge, currently works at a classic car dealership and is looking to arrange more meets in and around Essex.

He explained: "I've always been around cars growing up, we meet up at a car park and then we'll usual drive somewhere and have some lunch."
