CALORIES, sweat and generous donations will help make a school's new classroom project possible.

Boxted St Peter's Primary School has been gifted with £6,000 from the proceeds of the village's first 10K race and fun run in May.

The event's organising committee which included parents, poured their energy into helping fund an additional classroom.

The space will become home to the primary school's Forest School club and also a base for it's breakfast and after-school club, Rainbow Rangers, as well as Boxted Runners club.

Headteacher Laura Khine said: "We were delighted. Not only did Boxted Runners help to provide funds for the school, they provided our community with a wonderful event.

"The Boxted Runners' steering group, which organised the day, are parents of the school and gave their time tirelessly. "That’s what makes our school community so special - people really are united in making a difference to the children’s education.

"We have excellent links with organisations and the school was proud to host the event with the British Legion and the WI."

The fundraising for this multipurpose room continues, Ms Khine adds, as it will cost in excess of £100,000.

Race committee chairman Vanessa Dolling, who founded Boxted Runners, said: "I’m over the moon with the total. It was absolutely awesome for our first event."
