A MEMORIAL gig race will take place for the first time this year.
The Wivenhoe Regatta set to take place weekend. The event, sponsored by Michaels Property Consultants, includes more than 40 stalls along the quay. There will be food and drink outlets and Punch and Judy shows, with the Colchester Brass Band playing throughout the afternoon.
The main water-based races feature traditional Essex sailing barges, smacks and other craft.
They will be sailing from Brightlingsea along the River Colne. There will also be rowing, canoe and kayak races.
The John Stewart Memorial Gig race takes place for the first time this year, named after local historian John Stewart, who died recently.
