Baby Shambles
4 Music Stage, Saturday 5.45pm

PETE Doherty gave festival-goers a performance to remember at Chelmsford's Hylands Park.

Taking to the 4 Music Stage at V Festival on Saturday, Baby Shambles' early evening set drew a huge gathering.

Doherty turned up uncharacteristically on time for the set, before belting out Delivery, from the forthcoming album Shotter's Nation.

But living up to his image, Doherty, in his trademark trilby hat, threw beer at the crowd before he started, and spent the rest of the performance dodging beer cans thrown from the raucous, but jubilant, crowd.

The charismatic lead-singer threw can back at the crowd before downing a pint of beer himself.

The slow-starting performance picked up the pace with the band's best known hit from its 2005 album Down in Albion, Killamangiro, which was later followed by The Libertines' track What Katy Did.

The highlights of the performance were Pipedown and an energetic rendition of Forever.

Other tracks played included Beg, Steal or Borrow, Baddie's Boogie, The Blinding, Sedative, Side of the Road and Begging.
