THE pints were flowing as drinkers enjoyed the variety of ales on sale at an annual beer festival.

Now in its 33rd year, the Colchester Real Ale and Cider Festival is running until tomorrow.

The event, which is organised each year by the Colchester Campaign for Real Ale, is an opportunity for drinkers to sample up to 75 beers.

The range of drinks changed throughout the week to ensure there was always something intriguing on offer.

Offerings included 43 real ales, 18 ciders, three Perries, as well as Belgian beer, English wine and some alternative Real Ale from the Crafty Corner.

A barbecue was served to keep everyone’s appetites satisfied and there was live music throughout the week to entertain guests.

The event is being held at Colchester Arts Centre in Church Street. It is the 25th time the festival has been held at this venue.

One of the organisers, Tony Smith, said: “It has been going really well, we have got a couple of new things this year with the bar that sells real ale using a different process.

“The Belgian beer bar also went particularly well.

“Colchester Hospitals Charity is here fundraising as well. We always raise hundreds at the festivals.”
