BOOKWORMS celebrated a £2,000 boost which will be used to buy new library books.
Tesco Highwoods handed over the money to Brinkley Grove Primary School as part of the supermarket’s Bags of Help scheme.
The project awards money to communities by asking customers to vote for their favourite cause when they buy a bag for life.
Darren Smith, headteacher at the school in Rawlings Crescent, said: “We were extremely grateful to receive the Tesco’s grant. Our school library is so popular that we needed a larger number of books to ensure our children continue to develop their love of reading.”
The school’s new library was opened less than a year ago.
Mr Smith added: “There are many amazing authors who are being discovered by our children and we wanted a substantial stock to keep up with their reading for pleasure.”
Brinkley Grove’s library co-ordinator, Louise Fitzpatrick, will continue to liaise with Colchester’s independent book shop, Red Lion Books for guidance on a wide range of popular titles.
