AT long last a Tilbury school will get the TLC it needs.
There’s been many attempts to get new life injected into the Tilbury Pioneer Academy, as it’s now known.
But up to now, nothing.
If ever there was a school which needed upgrading this is surely it.
The wooden structure of the junior school was built more than 80 years ago – with a 20-year life expectancy.
Well, it’s been a while since 1958 came and went.
After many failed attempts, vital change is now imminent.
The Gazette can reveal how the school’s bosses – the Gateway Learning Community Trust [GLC] – has secured just under £6m of funding.
Historically this school, once known as the Manor School, has been among the worst in the borough.
Yet, in its latest inspection by education watchdog Ofsted it received a ‘good’ rating – for the first time in its long history. Headteacher Dan George is a proud man, and among the many in the community delighted with this news.
So now, new classrooms will arrive this summer and the wooden junior school mentioned earlier will be razed to the ground and replaced by a “state-of-art” facility.
What a great example of how hard work behind the scenes between a Trust, Government and council can pay dividends.
