Gregory Land of Canna CBD has got something he wants to tell everybody about, but he has to choose his words very carefully.

This is because he represents Canna CBD, a company garnering a huge public following from its north Essex base and across the world, and is based around the legal aspect of something which has courted controversy for many years.

Canna CBD, which is currently building a new laboratory and office space in Wrabness near Harwich, produces CBD oil made from Cannabis Sativa, a cannabis-derived product which influences the release and uptake of chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin which make you feel good.

The compound has been credited with helping to relieve pain and stiffness, as well as aiding conditions such as anxiety and is most popular in an oil form, taken under the tongue, or capsules.

Neither form contains THC, which cause the high in cannabis, and it has been reported to help people with epilepsy, rheumatism, migraines, psoriasis, acne, multiple sclerosis and depression although there is no medically verified proof in this and anyone selling it is not allowed to use this information in order to market their product.

Since last year, it has been legal to buy in the UK, but soon after approving it as a medicine under licence the MHRA back-tracked on its position and suppliers now need a license to sell it as a medicine.

The CBD produced by the Essex-based company, which does not have a medical license, is made from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant and can be legally used as a food supplement or cosmetic.

Canna CBD is producing a range of products using the extract and it has quickly gained a popular following.

The trade has become big business across the world with a range of beauty companies using it in creams and moisturisers for anti-ageing purposes.

Greg explains CBD is classed as a food supplement and is not registered for any possible healing properties it may have.

He has to be careful about how he describes and discusses the products they manufacture but it is all perfectly legal.

"I think people get jittery when they hear the word cannabis, which is understandable as the parts of the plant it comes from that make you high are illegal. But in recent months, large corporations like Holland & Barrett have picked up on these products and retail them globally”

"Our products are safe and legal and we have permission to make them.

"The response has been really positive from our customers including local legend Bobby George."

A division of the World Health Organization declared CBD oil to be safe, with many potential benefits, and recommended it should remain fully legal.

The recommendations were put in a report from the Expert Committee on Drug Dependence (ECDD), which advises the global body on how to handle various substances that could be addictive or otherwise harmful.

The authors also said there was no evidence the oil was harmful or addictive.

Greg explains there are currently in the region of 600 sellers of CBD in the UK and their particular business also has offices in Asia and Denmark.

He says being restricted to only talking about the product as a food based product, due to it not being medically registered, means customers must, and do, make up their own minds and reach their own conclusions.

"We have got a lot of returning customers and we say to everyone thinking about trying it to do their own research and come back to us knowing what you are buying."

Their range of products includes soap, three different types of topical cream including one for the joints, an oil and three different vaping products.

Canna CBD hopes more research and public awareness into the issue will provide greater transparency within the industry and provide greater awareness about what they are doing in Wrabness.
