PLANS have been submitted to build 56 new homes in Stanway.

Mersea Homes’ proposals would see the 6.5 acre site, which is north of Dyers Road, developed for the first time.

The land is already zoned for housing in Colchester Council’s current local plan.

In a planning statement, the house builders said: “The dwellings would be predominantly two stories in height.

“In addition, the provision of five bungalows has been provided as part of the development.”

“Each of these dwellings within the development has been provided with off street parking spaces and its own private or communal amenity space.”

A parcel of land has also been allocated as open space which will include an ecology habitat zone to www.gazette-news.co.uk Monday April 9, 2018 Gazette 7 the north of the site.

The main access will be from a new road which would connect from the existing Warren Lane/ Stanway by-pass roundabout.

The new road would ultimately cross Dyers Road and connect to the southern part of the site, which is earmarked for future residential development.

Colchester Council will have the final say on the plans.

Residents can have their say on the proposals at colchester.gov.uk before May 4.

Similar proposals put forward by Taylor Wimpey, to build 35 homes immediately beside the new site, have attracted strong opposition.

No final decision has been taken on those plans.
