A MOTORIST who targeted a cyclist and rammed him off his bike has been jailed.

The victim was riding a pedal cycle with a friend on North Station Road, when a Ford Mondeo being driven by Ashley Wallace Merrett braked sharply closeby.

The cyclist then made an obscene gesture at Wallace Merrett who then swerved into him and knocked him off his bike.

Fortunately, the cyclist only suffered minor injuries.

His friend tried to flag down Wallace Merrett, who then swerved the car back at him but he was able to avoid any contact.

Police were able to track down the car on the same day of the incident in May 2016.

Wallace Merrett, of Mumford Close, West Bergholt, admitted actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and common assault at a previous hearing at Ipswich Crown Court.
