BRAINTREE and Bocking Swimming Club have come off the blocks like Sharks for the start of the new season.

The season started at the the Halstead Sprint Starter open meet and Braintree came home with 37 gold medals, 29 silvers, 20 bronzes and 43 fourth to sixth places.

Five Braintree swimmers won the top girl or boy awards for their age groups: Harmonie Fry Oliff (ten years), Calum Digby (ten years), Nancy Neeve (12 years), Hayden Miller (11 years) and James Wicks (14 years).

Best swims of the day went to Rosie Henn in the 11 years, for her 200 metre Individual Medley and knocking 20 seconds off her personal best (PB), while Sophie Clerkin bettered her PB by four seconds in the 11 years 50m breaststroke.

Braintree also had two swimmers achieving a county time for the first time - Max Headley and Isabelle Talbot, both in the 50m backstroke.

There were also some first-time competitors representing Braintree, with Rhys Sercombe achieving a bronze in the nine years 50 metre breaststroke and seventh in the 50m freestyle and Isabelle Raven was eighth in nine years 50m backstroke and tenth in 50m freestyle.

Hollie Heighes was also competing with Braintree for the first time, winning golds in the nine years 200m freestyle, 100m Individual Medley and 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m freestyle.
