A TINY deer gave one sleepy household an unwelcome wake-up call this morning after it accidentally got trapped in a back garden.

The four-legged visitor stopped by to visit Jo Johnson's garden in New Town at 5am this morning, but proceeded to jump against the 6ft wooden fence when it couldn't escape.

Jo said: "It was making such a racket I thought it was someone breaking in.

"When I got up and saw it, I was running around the garden like crazy but I just scared it.

"I went back to bed and got up at 7.30am and thought I had dreamt it all.

"But there it was sitting next to my shed."

It's believed the deer had wandered away from its habitat near the allotments between Bourne Road and the Knights Field estate.

Having opened the garden gate, the little visitor safely made its way out to return home.

Jo, 39, said: "I put it on social media and someone said the deers have been living near the allotments for years.

"Obviously this one had got a bit lost.

"It's really nice to know they live so close."
