HAPPINESS is the keyword for a prep school which held a wellbeing week to teach children about their mental health.
Holmwood House Preparatory School in Lexden put happiness on the top of its agenda in light of growing national concerns for young people’s well-being.
Naturopath and herbalist Louisa Hallowes spoke with pupils about natural medicine, meanwhile others had yoga sessions and learnt about the body with school nurse Maria Alexiou.
Experts on body image and self-esteem, and mental health first aid also visited the school to help equip children with the habits and attitudes they need for future good health and happiness.Presentations were also delivered to staff and parents.Headmaster Alexander Mitchell said: “It’s imperative as adults we model good habits in our own attitudes towards our mental wellbeing if we hope for our children to take these messages seriously.”
“Not only does the school have a robust emotional intelligence programme in place for children but our Latin motto Laetatus Sum translates as, I am happy.”
