A SUSPECTED paedophile built up a library of hardcore child pornography and bestiality with farmyard animals on his computers, a court heard.

Glenn Briggs denies downloading films and pictures of children as young as six which were found on his computer and laptop during a police raid.

Briggs, 50, of Cherry Tree Close, Halstead, is on trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.

Jim Harrison, prosecuting, said: "All were recovered from computers owned and used by Briggs.

"The fact these images and films were on these devices is not in dispute.

"The issue is how they came to on these devices."

He is charged with eight counts.

It is alleged he downloaded two category B images of children onto an external hard drive on November 18, 2014 and another image onto another computer hard drive between May 2013 and January 2015.

It is alleged he downloaded 1,560 images onto a laptop, including more than a thousand in the highest and most vile category A.

He is also charged with downloading child abuse movies and two counts of possessing images of children which were available to show on a file sharing website.

In total he faces five counts of making images by downloading them, two of possessing images available to share and one of having 80 images involving illegal acts with animals.

Mr Harrison said: "He says he is someone who looked for adult pornography and did not knowingly look at children."

However the prosecution claim the images and films were on a password protected computer in files belonging to Briggs.

The trial, in front of jury of seven men and five women is expected to last three days.

The trial continues.
