PROUD staff at a top dance academy are celebrating after dozens of children scooped the best exam results since the school was founded.

Boogie Shoes Dance Academy, based in Ramsey, hold classes for a range of different styles, including Disco, Street, Rock and Roll and Ballroom.

The school, which has been running for ten years and has more than 200 students, also competes in competitions across the country.

At the most recent Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing exam session, the academy had nearly 180 entries, with 46 achieving a 99 per cent mark.

Katie Gooch, founder, said the result was unprecedented.

She said: "These exams are done every six months, an external examiner from ISTD examines depending on what grade they are in.

"They are marked and 65 per cent is a pass.

"To get 100 per cent is essentially unheard of - so 99 per cent is basically a perfect score.

"These are the highest marks we have ever had and I am hugely proud."

Among the pupils to receive the remarkable score were under 12 dance group The Nemesis.

She added: "We are looking forward to a great year of competitions.

"I'm running an open competition at Clacton Leisure Centre in February, we are starting ballroom competitions and there will be shows in London and at the Regent Theatre in Ipswich.

"However many people don't realise it's not just about competing - we teach first and foremost and kids can come along just to have a bit of fun."
