A FEW weeks in and my concerns about Gary Barlow’s Let it Shine are growing considerably.

It is clear he is unsure about casting hopefuls with no previous performing experience - so why have they been given the daunting task of trying to change his mind ?

Three weeks in and the guys currently working in the West End sailed through - and the ones with no stage experience didn’t.

The only reason I keep watching is to see Mel Giedroyc and Graham Norton - who would be so much better on something else where they could just chat and be funny together.

My favourite sections by far are when they all start dancing and having a sort of party. I have no idea why they do this, but it is more enjoyable than the auditions and the very flat judging segments where they repeat themselves, over and over.

I still think Graham Norton’s chat show is the best on television by a country mile.

Somehow, and without being sycophantic, he manages to get the best out of guests who on other interviews have appeared a bit standoffish.

Ryan Gosling, currently wowing the crowds in the multi-award nominated La La Land, looks dour and a bit unapproachable when he is not on screen but on his numerous appearances on the Graham Norton show he is relaxed and very funny.

This week Ed Sheeran was, probably not randomly at all, re-united with a childhood school friend and it seemed to be a surprise to all.

He appeared to be getting on like a house on fire with fellow guests Matthew McConaughey, Christina Ricci and comedian Josh Widdicombe - often mistaken for Sheeran apparently.

Norton makes it look easy but it is probably a tough task to make sure all of those on his sofa get a fair chat with him and I am sure editing has a lot to do with it too.

The only thing I am not a fan of is when audience members try and entertain the celebs with a tale in the red chair whilst avoiding being tipped up on it.

Russell Crowe just tipped everyone off before they had a chance to speak, which I just thought was rude.

It also eats in to the time they could be talking to the guests - which would be far more interesting.

Although maybe he could put Gary and the entire cast of Let it Shine in the red chair this week.

If it carries on the way it is, I’m afraid I would be pulling the lever on it.
