A POPULAR nightspot wants to get rid of its rule to only let in people aged 21 and over.

After Office Hours on Colchester High Street, has applied to Colchester Council to remove the restriction, and be able to serve alcohol to people who are 18.

Bar bosses also want children who are accompanied by an adult to be able to be on the premises until 8pm.

An application has also been lodged to extend the bar's opening hours.

After Office Hours has permission to open until 1am between Monday and Thursday, until 1.30am on Friday and Saturday and 11.30pm on Sundays, buts wants to extend until 2am between Thursday and Saturdays, and on Sundays which come before Bank Holidays.

A total of five nearby residents, including the Dutch Quarter Association, have lodged objections to the plans.

The council's sub-licensing committee will discuss the plans at a meeting next Friday.
