GOOD things come to those who wait.

Just ask Wivenhoe musicians Fiona Harmon and Nick Munt because while they've been waiting for the line-up of their current band, Hobo Chang, to get sorted, they've hit more musical gold with a new project.

That's The Wicked Ravens, who have smashed on to the local scene with a string of popular gigs and festival sets as well as a cracking debut album.

Fiona says: "It came about basically because I was a bit bored waiting for Hobo to get itself together again.

"Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to our last bass player and since then we've been looking for a new one. Everything was kind of put on hold, gigs, the launch of the second album, and I just can't sit around and wait, so Nick and I began writing some new songs."

The result was a dirty marshy mash-up of psych folk, rock, a bit roots with a touch of Essex country blues.

The Wicked Ravens debut album, entitled In The Woods, was recorded in Fiona's kitchen and dining room on an eight track, the result of which, as Fiona puts it 'is the sound of a bunch of musicians with influences from Coltrane to Neil Young doing what they love best playing live and catching the moment.

Released in May, in the last couple of weeks, it's secured Fiona and Nick another publishing deal to the one they already have with Hobo Chang.

Very different to the pair's very popular Hobo sound, The Wicked Ravens is made-up of Fiona and Nick Munt alongside Ophelia Mills on violin and Stuart Armitige on drums and percussion.

"I've always had a couple of music projects on the go," Fiona smiles, "so it's nothing that new to me, and as long as Hobo keeps working for us, then we'll keep writing songs for the band. What's great about the Ravens is we can take that out as a duo or a trio, which you couldn't really do with Hobo."
