A YOUNG Help for Heroes fundraiser was a guest of honour at the Houses of Parliament.

Alfie McAnespie, eight, was treated to a day out at the home of the UK Government by Colchester MP Will Quince.

Little Alfie, a pupil at Montgomery Junior School, is climbing Mount Snowdon next month in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for soldiers' charity Help for Heroes and has attracted support from around the world.

He hopes to raise enough money so the charity can buy a specialised wheelchair for former Para John Prosser - who was seriously injured after a series of parachute jump hard landings.

Alfie was greeted at Parliament on Thursday by former Para Sgt Stu Pearson, who sponsored Alfie to complete the trek, found out about Alfie's plans on Twitter.

Sgt Pearson's story was told in 2014 film Kajaki.

He was serving with Colchester’s 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, when he found himself in an unmarked minefield along with several colleagues.

Sgt Pearson lost his left leg in the incident.

Alfie's proud mum, Anja McAnespie, 44, said: "It was an absolutely wonderful day.

"Alfie was walking around in awe. He just loved being there.

"Stu was just amazing and if anything, it has made Alfie even more determined to raise as much money as he can.

"For someone like to Stu to take the time to spend time with Alfie, we're just so grateful."

She added: "The support we've had from Mr Quince has been brilliant too.

"He even said we could come back another time. Alfie enjoyed himself so much that I think he will certainly want to."

Mr Quince added: "It was a pleasure to have their company.

"For such a young guy, Alfie is so passionate about supporting service personnel.

"I think it is fantastic and he is a credit to his family and to his school.”

Alfie shot to fame when he became the youngest Help for Heroes fundraiser when he was aged just one.

As a 16-month old, he walked one mile unaided and raised £1,000 for the soldiers' charity and was name-checked by Prince Harry and then-PM Gordon Brown.
