DETECTIVES investigating the discovery of a body in a lake say they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Police are combing CCTV evidence for clues after the man was found in water at a local beauty spot.

The victim is believed to be a Colchester man in his 50s.

Tapes from cameras on routes leading to and from the water behind Scarfe Way on Colchester's Greenstead estate have been seized by officers.

They hope the recordings will uncover information which might help their probe.

An investigation was launched after angler Gary Caunter found the body face-down in water yesterday.

A post mortem examination revealed the unidentified man had drowned.

It has now emerged the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Forensics teams were at the scene on Friday afternoon.

Rosemary Sainty, 36, whose flat overlooks the lake, said: "It's quite daunting to know something like this has happened right outside.

"I have been here 13 years and it's the first time anything like this has happened."
