Essex pop punkers Koopa are getting ready for one of the biggest gigs of their lives.

And it couldn't come at a better time, as they look set to make history once more.

Colchester's Joe Murphy and brothers Oli and Stu Cooper, from Sible Hedingham, will be opening the main stage of the Isle of Wight Festival, on tomorrow's opening night.

As well as hanging out backstage with some of the biggest names in music, including Friday's headliners Snow Patrol, the lads will be filmed as part of Channel 4's coverage of the event.

Their slot at the acclaimed festival follows last weekend's appearance at the Big Culture Show, in Haywards Heath, with The Feeling, all of which is giving them ample promotion for their new single.

Entitled One Off Song for the Summer, it is being released on Monday and with pre-orders already looking like getting them a top 10 slot in the mid-week charts, Koopa could be making history again.

They already have the accolade of being the first unsigned band in history to make the top 40, and now they could be the second.

The Gazette has started an online campaign to make that dream come true.
