Vandals caused thousands of pounds damage when they went on the rampage and trashed a metal recycling yard.

They used salvage lorries at the site to smash into other vehicles, leaving none of them drivable, and pelted dozens of windscreens with rocks.

Police estimate that the damage at A1 Walton Salvage, at Foundry Yard, near Walton seafront, will run into thousands of pounds.

The business - recognised as one of East Anglia's top metal recyclers - specialises in salvage and dismantling for spares.

It is not expected to reopen for business until after the weekend.

A worker at the firm said: "It was just like target practice - they drove cars into cars and lorries into lorries."

A police spokesman said the youngsters got into a Mitsubishi tipper truck and started smashing it into Leyland Daf lorry.

They then hot-wired another Leyland Daf lorry, smashing into other scrap and working vehicles.
