RESIDENTS close to a primary school are being asked to put poppy plaques on their homes.

Children at North Primary School in John Harper Street, Colchester, have been working on a project to commemorate former pupils who served and died in the First World War.

The year six pupils have researched the former pupils, as well as identified and photographed their homes.

The school is inviting residents to get involved if they live in one of the surrounding houses and asking if they will display a poppy plaque.

A special open evening will be held at the school on Thursday between 5pm and 7pm.

Streets likely to contain the plaques include Albert Street, Causton Road, Bergholt Road, Crowhurst Road, The Workhouse, North Hill, Burlington Road, Hamilton Road, St Peter's Street, Northgate Street and Manor Road.

The project has been made possible by funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, Essex County Council and individual donation from the High Steward of Colchester, Sir Bob Russell.
