A cabbie was taken to hospital after he was stabbed and robbed for four cans of beer.
Police were called after the man came under attack as he waited in his car outside a kebab house in Crouch Street, Colchester.
The victim told officers a fight between two men outside the restaurant spilled on to the road just before midnight.
He said the two brawling men then damaged the car as they buffeted the vehicle during the tussle.
Their attention then turned to the victim. He revealed one the men pulled a small penknife and lunged at him, cutting his chin, before making off with a four pack of Stella Artois.
The taxi driver was taken to Colchester General Hospital for treatment.
The incident happened late on Tuesday night.
