Hundreds of residents descended upon a village hall to protest against plans for a wind farm between Clacton and St Osyth.
More than 220 villagers turned out to a public meeting at St Osyth Village Hall to discuss the blueprint for five 410ft turbines on land at Earls Hall Farm, off St John's Road.
Representatives of electricity company N-Power Renewables, which has proposed the development, were at the meeting to argue that the turbines will have little impact on people's lives.
But anti-wind farm campaigners, South Tendring Acting to Protect our Local Environment (Staple), claim the site is too close to homes and that noise and shadow flicker will ruin people's residential amenity.
David Harrington, Staple spokesman, said: "This project is inappropriately sited and too close to homes."
