A COLCESTRIAN is behind an online petition which has gone viral and could be debated in Parliament.

The man, who won’t be named but has revealed a few clues about his identity, launched the petition calling for a Snap General Election five days ago.

Already it has nearly 13,000 signatures spanning each and every one of the UK’s Parliamentary Constituencies.

It smashed its 10,000 target in three days meaning the Government needs to acknowledge it.

At 100,000 signatures, the petition will be considered for debate in Parliament.

The resident, who goes under the name of ‘Colcestrian Person’ said the recent doctors’ strike was the final straw for taking action to topple politicians at the top.

“What hope is there for some on benefits? It makes those people dejected and they won’t vote.”

The constituency with the highest signatures is Brighton Pavilion at 121, which has been represented by the Green party since 2010.

Following closely behind is Labour-held Bristol West with 100 signatures.

The petition has another six months to run.

Colcestrian Person, who revealed he is married with one young child and works full-time in the private sector, said: “If you search for ‘Snap Election’ online now you get people all over the country who are promoting it.

“What you see is people power is the only form of power you have got until election day.

“Until we have got electoral reform, all you can do is a wave a placard and make a fuss.”

Colcestrian Person is aged in his 40s and said he is non-partisan but voted Labour in the last General Election because he thought it was the best chance to overthrow the Lib-Dem and Conservative coalition.

However, he said he’s voted for other mainstream parties before.

“The Government got in on promises that have not actually happened,” he added.

“In the past I have voted across the parties although I don’t align myself with any of those.”

Colcestrian Person, who has lived in Colchester for seven years and prior to that lived elsewhere in Essex in a rural area, added: “The response from the public has been really wonderful from Colchester and all over Essex. It is going to go for six months so we shall see what happens.”

The petition has 44 signatures in Conservative-held Colchester.

MP Will Quince said: “The reality is we had a General Election less than a year ago.

“The result was decisive. People have the chance to show the Government on how well or not they have performed in 2020. If they don’t think the Government or I have done a good job they will be able to boot us out someone else.”
