A LEGION of Colchester music lovers descended upon the town’s Waiting Room at the weekend for the launch night of Off The Wall’s latest single, Marvel Superhero.

Essex singer-songwriter James Burrage opened proceedings with an intriguing fusion of acoustic-led funk tracks, delicately weaved on occasions with Louis Takoree's effortless, yet intricate lead guitar licks.

The cheeky, no-nonsense dexterity of Britpop-esque quartet, Chasin’ Vegas soon followed. Prolific live staples, Times Are Hard and Feel It were unsurprisingly convicted with magnitudes of professionalism, whilst forthcoming single, Blue Eyed Skies served as a refreshing reminder of the band’s capability to write touching ballads, as well as euphoric anthems.

Smartly clad in an all-black uniform, the evening’s headliners, Off the Wall, exuded an air of both playfulness and maturity far superior than their age would suggest.

With little in the way of an introduction, the band opened with their latest single’s B-side, Hard To Sack instantly igniting The Waiting Room into a frenzy of adolescent excitement.

The colossal combination of Adam Looker’s thunderous drums and Sam Warner’s galloping bass on tracks such as, Red Face Tight and standout number, Behind My Back are the essential backbone for the band’s ferocious output, while Albert Wallace’s tricky lead work and the crowd’s willingness to erupt song after song, made it quite a night.

Finally the ferocious instrumentals of set-closer, Marvel Superhero showcase frontman Fin Clark’s sultry, velvet smooth vocals and his new found confidence.

Like many bands, Off The Wall simply came to launch their newest single but in doing so, they also launched the venue itself into the stratosphere.
