SOLDIERS past and present will gather together to remember those who have died in combat.

There will be services across north Essex to mark the day.

Colchester

A service will be held at the war memorial in Cowdray Crescent, at the front of Colchester Castle, from 10.30am on Sunday.

Troops will march along the High Street to the Town Hall, where there will be a two minute’s silence at 11am.

A 105mm light gun from 7th Parachute Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, will be fired to mark the beginning and end of the silence.

A private ceremony will also be held at Merville Barracks’ Memorial Garden for the families of 16 Air Assault Brigade soldiers killed on operations.

Wreaths will also be laid at the First and Second World War memorials in Colchester Cemetery.

Manningtree

The Manningtree branch of the Royal British Legion is holding a remembrance parade starting in Market Square, Brook Street, on Sunday, at 2.30pm.

It will march to the town’s war memorial for a service at 3pm.

Manningtree Methodist Church will hold a remembrance service at 10.15am with a reading of all those who died in the two world wars and the two minute’s silence.

Harwich

The Royal British Legion in Harwich will meet at 2pm at Harwich Quay for a parade setting off at 2.30pm.

The parade will make its way to St Nicholas Church in time for a service at 3pm.

Great Oakley People can pay their respects at the All Saints Church at 10am, before attending a ceremony at the war memorial.

A remembrance service will also be held at the Little Oakley Memorial at 11am and a short service will take place at St Michael’s Church in Ramsey at 11am.

Ramsey

There will be a service at 10.45am at the war memorial.

Clacton

Veterans will join Sundays’ remembrance parade from Clacton Town Hall to the war memorial at 10.30am, with the service starting at 11am.

Royal British legion branch chairman Jamie Robinson said: “Over the years we have seen a substantial increase off support for this service and we hope to see a lot of people there again this year.

“There will be certain areas around the war memorial fenced off. These areas are for some of the children who are marching on the parade and we ask that they are not taken up by members of the public.”

Walton

The parade will march from Millennium Square at 10.15am up the High Street to the Memorial Gardens.

New vicar Peter Edwards will lead the service and Clacton MP Douglas Carswell is among the dignitaries laying wreaths.

Maroons will be fired at 11am.

Halstead Halstead will mark Remembrance Sunday with a parade and service at St Andrew’s Church. A wreath laying ceremony will take place at the public gardens in Trinity Street at 2.15pm. The parade will then travel down Trinity Street, through Bridge Street and then up the High Street to the church.

More wreaths will be laid at the World War One memorial in the churchyard.

A further service will be held outside the post office on November 11 at 11am.

Braintree

At 2pm on Sunday there will be a wreath laying ceremony in the Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens.

Hundreds of school pupils, Air Cadets, Cubs, Scouts and Brownies will then join former and current servicemen on a parade through the town, beginning at 2.30pm.

The congregation will march past Causeway House, down Bank Street, along the High Street, and then down St Michael's Lane to St Michael's Church for a service.

Witham

A parade of more than 300 former and current serviceman and a Caledonian pipe band will leave from The Avenue at 2.40pm.

They will make their way down Collingwood Road and up Newland Street in front of hundreds of spectators.

A service will then be held at the Memorial Gardens in Newland Street.
