COLCHESTER Zoo journey began in 1963, when it first opened under the name of Stanway Hall Park Zoo.

Since then it has developed and expanded its range of features and animals, and won a number of awards.

The zoo has drawn attention globally in the past for its breading of the Zeedonk.

During the late 1970’s the zoo fell into financial despair and then owner Frank Farrah was left with no choice but to sell up.

Angela and Dominique Tropeano took over in 1983 and turned the zoo around and expanded the establishment.

They continue to do so to this day, improving and keeping up with the demands that the 21st century brings.
