POLITICIANS have been pumping iron as they try out the newest gym in Colchester.
The £15,000 new outdoor facility has opened on Mill Road recreation ground, after residents asked for equipment in Mile End, similar to that recently installed in Castle Park and other green spaces across the borough.
Colchester Council has installed the equipment and residents were also asked for their preference from three design options.
The gym has been split into cardio and strength zones, designed to provide a full body workout. It is opposite Myland Primary School and has been funded by Section 106 money – contributions from major developers.
Dominic Graham, Mile End ward councillor and councillor responsible for street and waste services, said: “This waswhat the residents asked for when we sent out a survey.
“We are very pleased we have been able to deliver on their requests.
“We were keen to put it in the centre of Mile End so everybody can see it and use it.”
