Essex were forced to settle for a draw with Derbyshire in the opening Liverpool Victoria County Championship match of the 2007 season.
The visitors had set Essex a demanding 376 to win from a minimum of 74 overs, but Ronnie Irani's men showed no inclination to chase the target.
The home side had reached a sedate 131 for three when the captains called a truce.
