DETECTIVES have called off an investigation after a robber allegedly tried to steal a ring off the finger of a charity shop volunteer.
Essex Police decided they would take no further action due to insufficient evidence.
The attempted robbery allegedly took place at the St Helena Hospice charity shop, in Culver Street East, when a man is said to have tried to pull a worker’s dead husband’s wedding ring off her finger.
A man, pictured in the Gazette on Friday, handed himself in to police, who interviewed him before closing the case and eliminating him from inquiries.
