COLCESTRIANS went blooming crazy to snap up free trees and shrubs at the great green giveaway.
More than 600 people converged on the car park of the Colchester Council headquarters at Rowan House where 2015 trees and shrubs were up for grabs.
In less than three hours, the council had given away greenery, including 150 Acer campestre, 750 blackcurrant, gooseberry and raspberry bushes and a range of other trees.
Annie Feltham, councillor responsible for communities and leisure services, said: “It was wonderful to see so many residents come along and join in our tree giveaway.
“Everyone was in fantastic spirits, even though it was such a cold day.
“I want to give my special thanks to everyone whoworked so hard tomake such a successful event. All 2015 trees were given away.”
