IT was like a scene from the film Independence Day.
Except, instead of an alien space craft making Paul Hutchings’ house shake and keeping him awake with noise and lights, it was road workers.
Mr Hutchings and wife Elisabeth wondered what was happening when workers began to arrive outside their house in Fingringhoe Road, Rowhedge.
Within an hour, a dozen workers, lorries, JCBs and ground breakers had started work – and allegedly carried on until 4am.
Mr Hutchings said: “It was like the scene from the movie Independence Day when the UFO comes over the homes, shaking everything.
“The work lights were so bright and facing straight into our house, we had to put blankets over the windows and the house was actually shaking."
