The vote to choose a new county councillor for Brightlingsea will take place on Thursday, October 9.

A by-election was triggered by the resignation of UKIP councillor Roger Lord, who also renounced his party membership.

Mr Lord stepped down after he was deselected as UKIP’s parliamentary candidate for Clacton when the town’s Conservative MP, Douglas Carswell, defected to the party.

The Clacton constituency by-election will also take place on October 9.
