INTERCITY trains calling at Colchester will be faster and more modern under plans unveiled by the Chancellor.
George Osborne wants to see rail services between London and Norwich - which call at Colchester - shave 30 minutes off the journey time.
Mr Osborne has set up a task force, made up of Department for Transport officials, Network Rail experts and local MPs, to look at practical and affordable options to improve services to stations along the line.
The Department for Transport has also asked rail operator Abellio, which runs Greater Anglia, to draw up plans to refurbish and modernise the current fleet, update interiors, and provide improved facilities such as power sockets so commuters and business travellers can work more easily as they travel by train.
