CLACTON town centre is to get an early Christmas present from business leaders.

The Federation of Small Businesses is set to donate a 15ft tree to the town later this month.

The federation is also helping fund trees in Frinton and Walton.

Janet Jack, chairman of the federation’s North East Essex branch, said: “As part of our Keep Trade Local campaign we are doing all we can to raise awareness of the importance to communities of supporting small businesses.

“Christmas is a critical trading period for independent retailers so helping bring a little Christmas cheer is the least we can do.”

Nick Turner, Tendring councillor responsible for the environment, said: “A Christmas tree is the focal point for seasonal festivities in any town or village and we are grateful for the donation.

“I am sure it will be appreciated by residents and traders alike, as part of the festive decorations.”
