PLANS to build 34 council houses on garage sites have been tipped for approval.

Colchester Council wants demolish 183 garages at five sites and replace them with the affordable homes, the first council homes to be built in a decade.

Councillors on the planning committee are set to decide on the schemes at a meeting next Thursday.

Planning officers at the council have recommended each project is approved by them.

The sites are:

  • Holborough Close, Greenstead - 21 garages into three two-bedroom houses
  • Windsor Close, Berechurch - 40 garages into eight two-bedroom flats
  • Monkwick Avenue, Berechurch - site one converts 43 garages into six three-bedroom houses and eight two-bedroom flats
  • Monkwick Avenue, Berechurch - site two converts 39 garages into four three-bedroom houses
  • Rosabelle Avenue, Wivenhoe - 40 garages into five three-bedroom houses
