THOUSANDS of tattoo fans will descend on Clacton for a special showcase. The East Coast Tattoo Expo brings together artists and enthusiasts for the annual two-day event.

Held at Highfield Grange Holiday Park for the last few years, the event has become a major draw, growing every year since its launch ten years ago.

It will feature tattoo competitions and demonstrations, live music, food, drink and other entertainment throughout the weekend.

Organiser Sonya Trusty, who owns Red’s Tattoo Parlour, in Colchester, said: “The expo is full of tattoo related fun.

“There are a lot of these conventions, but many don’t offer enough to do and they are not fun any more.

“I took over three years ago, when the old organiser decided to stop, and I’m proud of what we put on.

“It has grown from a small event in Colchester to a real showcase.”]

More than 100 tattoo artists will be showing off their work at the expo, which normally draws about 2,000 visitors.

Sonya added: “We have some amazing, world-renowned artists this year.

“We are going with a redneck theme and a lot of people will be in costume. It should be fantastic.

“I always look forward to it, but I’m on edge until the event itself.

“It’s like throwing a party at your house. You just want to make sure everyone enjoys it.”

The event is at the holiday park on November 16 and 17.

Tickets are available online, or from Sonya’s Colchester shop.

They cost £12 for the day and £20 for the weekend if purchased on the day, with a £2 discount if bought in advance.

The expo is free for under-16s, if they are with an adult.
