AS CAMPAIGNERS celebrate winning their fight to save Colchester’s iconic water tower Jumbo from development, we ask, was this right the move?.
Colchester councillors rejected plans to convert the Grade II-listed building into luxury flats, offices and a restaurant.
The £3million scheme would also have seen glazing installed between the four legs of the tower, which would have been split into 11 levels.
However, councillors said the project would harm Colchester’s famous tower and the town’s identity.
Are they right? Would Jumbo have been ripe for development into flats and offices or is there a better idea?
