THE final day of this year’s Bures Music Festival will once again be celebrating the best acts from the Suffolk and Essex music scene.
Leading the way will be Colchester singer/songwriter Ady Johnson.
Now based in London, for many years Ady, along with his band Fuzzface, dominated the north Essex and south Suffolk music scene.
He says: “It’s great to be playing this festival because of the strong connection I have with the area.
“My roots are in Sudbury and my antique restoration business was in Great Cornard, not far away at all.”
On the day Ady will be playing with his full band which includes fellow ex-Fuzzfacer Toby Bull, as well as Andy Poonian and Matt Kelly. It will be a great chance to play on home turf for a while. with Ady performing all over the country.
“I’ve been doing a couple of things with Chris Helme from the Seahorses,” Ady reveals, “which includes supporting him on a few dates of his tour and hopefully we might be doing a collaboration .”
As well as Ady, other acts taking to the Music by the Stour stage at Bures Recreation Ground this Sunday, July 7, include ska and reggae group Two Steps Twice; acoustic hip-hop group the Story Boys as well as the Blue Meteors and the Vincent Lapie Trio, who will cover a range of genres between them from soul to bossa nova.
Other local acts will include Colchester teenager Rhys Butterworth-Bowman, who last year won the B-Fest Young Musician’s Competition.
This year’s competition takes place on Saturday with the winner awarded a slot on Sunday’s line-up.
Raising money for local good causes including Ferriers Barn centre for young disabled people and St Helena Hospice in Colchester, this weekend’s gig runs from noon until 8pm.
Tickets are £10 in advance, £12 on the gate, with children under 16 accompanied by an adult £5 and children under ten can get in for free.
