ANOTHER primary school looks set to open in Colchester.
The school on land off the New Braiswick Park estate in Mile End could be big enough for more than 800 pupils.
Essex County Council is expected to build it in around five years time as the demand for it increases with the local population growth.
Its catchment would serve families on the 700-home New Braiswick Park estate as well as the surrounding Bergholt Road and Braiswick areas.
The school would be in addition to a primary and secondary school earmarked for land off Nayland Road and Bergholt Road, known as the Chesterwell development.
The council bought the plot of land last year after it was put up for auction.
Four charities had previously owned it.
An Essex County Council spokesman said: “Essex County Council can confirm that the land, known as the Braiswick site, has been purchased for potential future development. There are no immediate plans for this site at present, however prior to any development, extensive consultation with the local community and all other stakeholders would take place.”
