Shilton, 63, was stopped by police in Manor Road and is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates Court next week.
* Colchester actress Miranda Bell is to play the judge in the long-awaited Coronation Street trial.
Miranda, who has previously appeared in EastEnders, The Bill and Lovejoy, will preside over the fates of Tyrone Dobbs who has been falsely accused of beating his girlfriend Kirsty Soames.
* A tapas bar, fine dining restaurant and coffee shop look set to open in unused parts of Colchester Town Hall.
