THE memory of a young army medic who died in a climbing accident will live on thanks to money donated in his name.

Hundreds of mourners packed into St Mary’s Church in Tollesbury on Monday to bid farewell to Second Lieutenant Ben St Joseph.

Ben, 22, from died last month after falling around 100 metres from Ben Nevis in Scotland.

His family asked for donations in his memory to be made to Chavasse House, the personnel recovery centre at Colchester Garrison.

Ben, of Mell Road, Tollesbury, was a medical student who had recently been commissioned in the Royal Army Medical Corps.

Ben died on January 26 after he fell into a gully.

Donations are also being made to the Medicines for Muheza, a charity that supports a hospital in Tanzania where Ben worked for a short time, as did his mum, Vivien, three decades before.

Dr Viven St Joseph is a senior partner at the Creffield Medical Centre in Colchester.
