SHOWBUSINESS legend Des O’Connor who celebrated his 80th birthday in January will be in Clacton on his new tour this summer.

Tickets go on sale this week, ready for his one night of comedy, laughter and music on Friday, July 20, at the Princes Theatre.

Des is one of the most popular and best-loved entertainers – at home and abroad – and is a firm family favourite.

Since landing his first television series in the UK in 1963, he has been a TV favourite.

The perma-bronzed national treasure was born in the East End of London.

After National Service in the RAF, he entered showbusiness and appeared in variety shows all over the country before his break in television. On stage he has starred at the MGM Grand Las Vegas, the Sydney Opera House, the O’Keefe Centre, Toronto and made more than 1,000 solo appearances at the London Palladium.

Since 1967, he has also been a successful recording star.

He had his first hit single with Careless Hands, produced 35 albums with sales of more than 16 million and spent 117 weeks in the top ten charts.

Tickets for his one-nighter at the Princes Theatre, in Station Road, are £20 with £1 off for concessions.
