MOTOWN fans will be dancing in the street – or at least the aisles – when Martha Reeves comes to the Towngate Theatre with her Vandellas.

The soul diva will be in Basildon on Wednesday, September 10. Tickets are on sale now.

The show is being billed as “unmissable non-stop Motown magic”, featuring some of the greatest and best-loved hits including, Nowhere to Run, Heat Wave and the sensational Motown anthem, Dancing in the Street.

The song Heat Wave became the group’s first million seller, and Martha and the Vandellas quickly rose to become one of the label’s top-draw acts, both as recording stars and as successful live performers.

Martha was the one consistent member of the group, staying throughout all its incarnations and line-ups.

After leaving Motown in 1972, Martha continued to expand her musical horizons, establishing herself as a singer/songwriter with few limitations, singing rock, jazz, country, gospel, blues and classical.

Martha continues to perform, both solo and with her Vandellas – her sisters Lois, a Motown-era Vandella since 1967, and Delphine, a Vandella since the mid-Eighties.

The show at the theatre in St Martin’s Square, starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £21 and can be booked online via towngatetheatre.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01268 465465.
