CHICAGO blues band Split Whiskers are tuning up for an afternoon gig  in Billericay.

The energetic five piece, who love wearing hats on stage while performing their up-tempo numbers, will be performing at Blues on the Farm, where they’ll have copies of their newly- released third album, Money Ain’t Everything on sale.

It is taken from the title of one of five original tracks written by Split Whiskers on the 12-track album. The rest are covers by artists, including ZZ Top and the Rolling Stones.

The band come from Cambridge and Leicester, but tour extensively around the UK and have built up quite a large following, particularly in Ireland and Denmark.

Frontman Gilby “Fat Slim” Fletcher, says: “I’d say we were an up-tempo blues band that gets everyone up dancing – we don’t play the kind of blues you want to slit your wrists to. We have our roots firmly planted in Chicago blues, crossing boundaries into rock, funk and occasionally a hint of the Delta.”

Blues at the Farm is at Barleylands Sports and Social Club, Barleylands Road, Billericay, on Saturday (March 15).

It kicks off at 2pm. Admission is £6 for members, £7 for guests, and under 16-year-olds £2.
