FOR anyone wanting to enjoy a relaxed meal in a lively environment, Squeeze hits the spot.

After a long week at work, me and my housemate, Jenny, decided to make our way to the cafe, bar and restaurant in Rectory Grove, Leigh.

Despite it being a busy Friday evening, the friendly staff were able to find us a table in a quiet corner upstairs.

As it was the Leigh Christmas lights switch-on event, we could only order from the day menu and starters were not available, so we certainly weren’t spoilt for choice.

A quick browse of the evening menu showed it didn’t seem to offer much more variety.

I opted for the Squeeze burger while Jenny, who had recommended the spot after enjoying a date there a few weeks earlier, went for the chicken burger.

My main was jam-packed with flavours, with the brie, bacon and caramelised onion complementing each other perfectly.

I could tell the beef was really good quality and when I cut into the middle, it was still a tiny bit pink, which is just how I like it.

Jenny’s burger was bursting with freshly-grilled chicken, pesto, rocket and mayonnaise, which she certainly seemed to enjoy.

Both dishes were topped off with a fresh, homemade seeded bun.

We both ordered a side of sweet potato wedges, which were beautifully soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, and a real highlight of the meal.

I finished off with a cherry and amaretto cheesecake, which came with pot of milk chocolate to pour over.

For anyone with a sweet tooth like me, there is no way this could have disappointed.

Jenny opted for a slice of Black Forest gateau, which was served with a generous helping of pouring cream.

It tasted slightly boozy, but the flavour was not overpowering.

Squeeze certainly appears to be a popular nightspot as we managed to bump into not one, but two of Jenny’s former flames.

Despite some awkward moments which resembled scenes from TOWIE, our evening was very enjoyable.

Live music was played downstairs and although we weren’t able to fullyappreciate it from our upstairs table, it created a fun, laidback environment.

The Squeeze motto is “making the healthy option the easy option” which I’m sure cannot be true with our delicious meal choices, but it was clear all the food was freshlymade.

The limited menu is the only downside, but it is an ideal spot for a Friday night catch-up with friends, and we will certainly be returning in the near future.
