“WE want it to be the English version of the Viper Room.”

That is the cry from Ian Dane and Alicia Beels, who have taken over the Twist music venue, in Military Road, Colchester.

Ian, who ran a pub in Rochford prior to moving to Colchester, is keen to tap into the growing music scene in the town and cites the world-famous Viper Room in Los Angeles as an inspiration.

He says: “While other places in the town may do live music as an addition, this is a venue focused purely on live music. We want it to be an English version of the Viper Room.”

Bands which have previously taken to the stage at the Twist include Snow Patrol and Enter Shikari.

On November 13, Grammy-nominated soul singer, and Colchester lad, James Hunter will be performing, and classic rock group Eddie and the Hot Rods will be playing on November 11.

Ian adds while the Twist had a reputation for being solely for metal bands in the past, he is trying to provide a more eclectic range of music.

He says: “We’ll play everything from grunge, ska, metal, good old fashioned rock and roll, and even opera!

“On a Wednesday night we are going to start having a plug-and-play night, where bands can turn up and have a jam.
